Kindle Touch vs. The Competition – What are the Main Features and Benefits?

The Kindle Touch was announced by Amazon on September 28th 2011, and actually started to ship on November 15th 2011 and is one of a new breed of e-readers that the company is championing. In many ways it is a natural extension of the Amazon Kindle range, but with the addition of a great new touchscreen interface and the option of a cheaper initial purchase price (in the ad supported version), as well as a number of other new compelling features and benefits.

Here are seven of the Main features and Benefits of the Kindle Touch!

1/ 4GB of internal storage space (enough for up to 3,000 eBooks!) • 2/ Weighs 7.5 ounces (compared to 8.5 with the Kindle Keyboard version and 14.6 ounces for the Kindle Fire) and so is far lighter and more portable than most other Kindles in the range. • 3/ Has an extended battery life that means you can typically go for 2 months between charges (compared to 1 month on the normal Kindle or only 8 hours on the Kindle Fire) • 4/ Offers a multi-touch touchscreen interface that means you can really feel fully engrossed in your reading without having to use clumsy keyboards or controllers.

5/ The Kindle Touch is available at two different price points and each with only Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 3G • Wi-Fi Only - $99 (for the ad-supported version) or $139 (without any ads) • Wi-Fi + 3G - $149 (for the ad-supported version) or $189 (without any ads) • 6/ Offers the facility to be able to borrow eBooks from the public library, so you are no longer dependent on buying all of your books from Amazon in order to use the device. •7/ Free cloud storage for all your purchases courtesy of Amazon, so that all the eBooks you buy will be safely backed up and available to read on your PC or other devices

How Does The Kindle Touch Compare to the Ipod Touch?

The first thing to realize is that the Ipod Touch costs considerably more than the Kindle Touch, with the cheapest 8GB version costing $199, and progressing up to $399 for the 64GB version. • The two devices are both capable of reading eBooks, but the Kindle Touch is a dedicated device and as such has some nice tweaks that make it better at that one specific task then the Ipod Touch.• The Ipod Touch is a good all-round device, and because it uses the iOS 5.01 operating system it gives users the ability to download the over 500,000 apps from the Apple App Store, and is certainly more portable. But for reading books the Kindle Touch is significantly easier to use, and whilst it is larger, that is actually an advantage when it comes to reading books because you want a reader to be roughly the size of a paperback book to keep the experience as genuine as possible.• The internal storage is actually fairly irrelevant if your primary goal in buying the device is to read eBooks, rather than play games or watch videos, because the Kindle Touch stores over 3,000 eBooks, and so in practice the amount of space available is plenty on the Kindle Touch

Should You Get The Kindle Touch or The Kindle Fire?

The Kindle Fire is the new full color e-reader from Amazon and retails for $199. It has a full color display, and allows you to watch movies, surf the web in full-color and experience magazines and graphic novels in a much better way than the Kindle Touch. • However, it is considerably heavier than the Kindle Touch (14.6 ounces vs. 7.5 ounces) and costs up to twice the price. So whilst it may be a great choice if you don't mind spending a little more money, must have color and do most of your reading at home. The Kindle Touch is probably a better choice for the budget conscious eBook reader who reads novels rather than magazines, wants a small device they can carry around in a handbag or briefcase, and who values a two month battery life over the ability to display high-end graphics which quickly consume the battery.

Ultimately which e-Reader you choose is a matter of personal choice, but the Kindle Touch is a great new option that may just be perfect for you!
